Stories By Moonlight:
Our Story
The time we spend outdoors engaging with the Natural world is disappearing. 90% of our lifetime is now spent indoors, British children spend less than one hour per day outside and a staggering one in four play outside less than once a month.
The consequences of this disconnection—on our health, wellbeing, and environment—are well documented and devastating. Parents, teachers, schools, councils, ministers—all know it, and we all see it, yet what do we do?
Well sometimes small acts have big impacts and that's the secret to Stories By Moonlight—the campaign shining a torchlight on the one place in children's lives where Nature and outdoor adventures still thrive! That place is in children's' stories and it is our mission to take these stories outside—reconnecting Nature stories with our real lives.
The Campaign: A Call to Action
We invite you to join the campaign—through a simple yet powerful act of taking Nature-themed bedtime stories outdoors. Whether it's a garden, balcony, park, or village green, we encourage families to embrace outdoor spaces and participate in this collective bedtime adventure.
A Growing Movement for Change
Stories By Moonlight is not merely about bedtime stories outdoors; it’s about a broader, collective change in human thinking and behaviour. We’re building a movement of parents, schools, outdoor practitioners and supporters focused on boosting human and environmental wellbeing and Nature positive action. Together, we can increase connections with Nature, environmental stewardship, and hope for future generations.

Time to Change the Story
Hi there! I’m Katie—an urban Nature connector, campaigner and mum to two young wild things. Every day, I see how modern life pulls us—and our children—away from the natural world, yet I also see the magic that happens when Nature seeps back into our lives. As a parent I also feel the heavy weight of our climate crisis and the knowledge that rebuilding our relationship with Nature is more urgent every day.
The climate crisis is knocking on our door, and every small act counts. It is a crisis that calls for shifts in global systems but also in our consciousness. We need to care more about Nature and our future. With Stories By Moonlight we use the power of stories and shared experience to drive that shift. This campaign is about more than taking your bedtime stories outside and creating shared memories, it is about joining the growing global effort to reshape our relationship with Nature.
So, are you ready to change the bedtime story? If you are join Stories By Moonlight today—and begin an outdoor adventure!
